Boost your immune system, detox and ground your energy using the 4-step system provided by the Yoga Journal 7-Day Detox program.
1. Slowing Down - most detox plans start with reduction of stress and mental hyperactivity. Believe it or not, fatigue, insomnia, indigestion, and excessive weight are often the result of brain and nervous system overload. This program will require you to make sure you eat your meals in a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere, practice yoga every day and make some time for meditations.
2. Detox Diet - purify your body following the dietary program. At the heart of it there's kitchari - rice and mung beans dish that's popular in Asian countries. Don't forget spicy teas and chutneys to aid your digestion. Also, use triphala, an Ayurvedic herbal formula that acts as a mild laxative and immune system stimulant.
3 - Cleansing Yoga - certain yoga poses facilitate the detox process. The program is designed to provide balance between stimulating and relaxing activities. There are sequences that build heat and remove toxins out of your body. Also, there are relaxing sequences that will calm your mind and body, which is extremely important for any detox program.
4 - Self-Study - svadhyaya in Sanscrit. Whether you practice to improve your health or soothe your mind, listening to yourself can make you discover many new things. It is recommended to spend a full day (or at least a half) in silence to see the world and yourself from a different perspective.
