#ShareYoga 30 Day Yoga Challenge - Day 24: Cow Face Pose (Sanskrit: Gomukhasana)
Cow Face Pose is a great hip opener. It also deeply stretches the shoulders when done with eagle arms.
HOW TO DO IT:
Begin by sitting on the floor in Staff Pose (Dandasana) with your legs straight out in front of you.
Bend your knees.
Cross your right leg over your left leg so that your right knee is on top of your left knee.
Bring your right foot close to your left hip. Your heels should be in equal distance from your hips. The further you keep your feet from your hips, the deeper the stretch will be. Sit evenly on your sitting bones. If this is difficult for you, you may sit on the edge of a folded blanket, keeping your feet on the floor.
Stretch your arms forward so that they are parallel to the floor.
Open your shoulder blades wide. Sweep your right arm under your left, bending your elbows so that your forearms are perpendicular to the floor. Cross your right forearm over your left and press your palms together. Your fingertips should be pointing toward the ceiling.
Lift your elbows up for a deep stretch through the shoulders.
Lengthen your spine and lift from the crown of your head. Hold for one minute. Gently return to starting position. Rest for a couple breaths and then repeat with the opposite leg and arm on top. As always, remember to breathe.
