There is no doubt that when it comes to teaching hatha yoga to kids, it has to be done only by specialists who have years of experience and practice working with children and this particular type of yoga.
First and foremost, the basic premise on which hatha yoga classes for kids started is that kids need to start learning yoga. Children, by nature like to learn new things in an atmosphere of fun and laughter. They like to laugh, have fun, and play games while learning these yoga postures. It is therefore important to create the right atmosphere: without which it would be difficult to teach the children the various postures or asanas. Teachers who are associated with children must therefore have a lot of patience, must be fun loving, compassionate and kind at heart. In the absence of these basic traits, such teachers would be better off teaching adults.
Even if a teacher has the aforementioned qualities, it is very important that he or she must have gone through a recognized and well-known yoga teacher-training course, where special focus is given on teaching children. There are many such yoga courses for teachers and it could go up to the 200-hour range. Only when they are fully qualified and trained should they begin hatha yoga classes for kids. Apart from the safety aspects which are very important for these children, teachers have to bear in mind that the asanas that are taught to the children will be with them for their entire life. Hence, as a teacher, one should take the trouble of teaching them perfectly the first time. Wrong postures could not only deprive the kids of the benefits of yoga, but could also cause injuries and other problems.
The biggest problem when it comes to conducting hatha yoga classes for kids is the difficulty in finding the right mix of kids for performing such exercises. Kids willing to learn hatha yoga should be of the same age group for better training and better coordination between the teacher and the kids and also between the children, themselves.
