| What is the power yogis view on good posture?

| Vibes:
Personally, I strive for the best possible posture I can manage while keeping my breath and tempo. Some asanas that I'm not particularly adept at present a bit of a mental struggle for me, as I know that even though going deep feels more "power", I'm cheating myself on the true nature of the pose.
Take trikonasana, for example - I know that collapsing my down side to touch the ground or my toes is cool looking and *does* provide a stretch, but by striving to make the bend come from my hips and keeping my bottom hand higher [sometimes even at my hip], keeping my shoulders aligned and my chest open, I'm working more of what the pose is intended to work].
I like to do a couple slower vinyasa practices a week to work on form and transition, and take what I've learned from them and try my best to apply it to my weekly power practice.
Overall, I would say it's OK to get a bit sloppy, but if you can find a way to really engage yourself in the practice at your best possible level, always striving and reaching just beyond what you think you can do in terms of keeping form and deepening the pose, you'll get the best possible results. | |
